Briefing & Concept Development
The process began with a creative briefing led by Nick Zerafa (Creative Producer) and Helen Morgan-Geary (Senior Creative), who outlined the goal: to create a new promo piece for The Incredible Dr. Pol show, emphasizing the show's humour, and heart through the style of a Hip Hop video. The tone needed to feel modern, cheeky, and colourful while staying aligned with National Geographic Wild’s brand.
Design Direction
Under the guidance of James Parsons (Design Lead), we explored visual styles that could elevate the energetic pacing and personality of Dr. Pol. This involved possible treatments, typography, and animation styles that leaned into urban aesthetics akin to Hip Hop/urban culture and bold colour palettes seen in NatGeo Wild brand.
Motion Design & Animation
As the Motion Designer on this project, I was responsible for bringing visual energy and cohesion to the promo through creative animation and design. My work involved developing playful, punchy transitions and graphic treatments that helped frame Dr. Pol’s world in a way that was both fun and easily digestible for all demographics.
Feedback & Refinement
Through ongoing collaboration, we tweaked visual timing, graphic placements, and colour treatments. Tight deadlines and a strong creative rapport meant quick turnarounds and efficient iteration cycles, ensuring every detail helped elevate the tone and clarity of the final piece.
Delivery & Recognition
The finished promo successfully delivered a compact, energetic, package that resonated with its audience. Its success was cemented when it took home two awards at the Promax UK Awards 2020, including Best Kids (Clip Based) and Bronze for Best Entertainment (Clip Based).
